Livingstone-Porcupine Region

The more than 4,500 square km Livingstone-Porcupine area is found along the Southern Eastern Slopes of the Rocky Mountains.

This Alberta government-defined land use zone begins just south of Kananaskis and extends to the Crowsnest Pass. Visitors travelling the “Cowboy Trail” on Highway 22 enjoy the extraordinarily beautiful and diverse landscape that reflects our southwest rangeland.

The area encompasses a mix of public and private lands. It includes provincial parks and protected areas such as the Don Getty Wildland Provincial Park, the Bob Creek Wildland and the Black Creek Heritage Wildland.

The Livingstone Landowners Group represents landowners in the Municipal District of Pincher Creek, primarily from the Whaleback area in the north to Highway 3 in the south and from the Livingstone Range in the West to the Porcupine Hills in the east.

However, the group’s interests span a much larger area along the southern eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains, given the interconnectivity of this entire region and the need to sustain the crucial air, ground and water resources in southwest Alberta.
